Kakamega Governor Pledges High-Mast Lighting and Increased Security at Mundeku Market Following Attack

Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa has announced plans to install a high-mast light at Mundeku Market in Butere Sub County, aiming to reduce crime and enhance safety in the area. This decision follows a recent tragic attack on a local village elder, James Namayi, who was assaulted alongside three neighbors by armed thugs while on duty at night.

Governor Barasa highlighted how criminals have exploited the darkness to carry out attacks on unsuspecting residents. He emphasized that proper lighting at Mundeku Market would serve as a deterrent to crime and improve the safety of the community, especially those conducting business or traveling at night.

“The County Government of Kakamega will install a high-mast light in the area to ensure the market is well-lit and secure,” Barasa announced during Namayi's burial at Eshikulusi village in Marama Central Ward. He further urged local law enforcement to increase patrols to protect residents and their property.

The funeral was attended by several MCAs and officials from both the National and County governments, all of whom echoed the call for improved security measures. Additionally, Governor Barasa revealed plans to collaborate with area Member of Parliament Tindi Mwale to establish a new police station in the area, further bolstering efforts to curb crime and enhance community safety.

The Governor's commitment to these initiatives reflects a proactive approach to addressing safety concerns in Kakamega County, demonstrating that community well-being remains a priority for local leadership. With the planned installations and increased police presence, residents of Mundeku Market and surrounding areas can look forward to a safer environment.
