The Trans Nzoia County Government is finalizing plans to ensure the smooth resumption of its school milk distribution program for preschool pupils when schools reopen next year.
Speaking in Cherangany Sub-County, Governor George Natembeya revealed that the county had allocated KSh 70 million to a contractor for the project. However, the contractor failed to meet the required supply demands, which led to the program's suspension.
“We had high hopes for the program, but the contractor we engaged fell short of expectations, causing the initiative to stall. Moving forward, we are making adjustments to ensure its success when schools reopen,” said Natembeya.
The milk program is a key initiative under Governor Natembeya’s administration, aimed at improving child nutrition and boosting school attendance among young learners.
The governor also called on teachers to collaborate with his office, particularly in addressing challenges related to school fees. He emphasized that no child benefiting from county scholarships or bursaries should be sent home due to unpaid fees.
“We have made a significant investment in education through scholarships and bursaries. I urge teachers to ensure these students remain in school so that they can fully benefit from the opportunity,” Natembeya added.
The county government remains committed to improving education and nutrition for its learners, with the milk program being a cornerstone of its vision for the early childhood education sector.
