Police officers from Khayega Police Station in Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County, have arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of cattle being transported in a Probox vehicle.
According to Nyumba Kumi official Hussein Alusa Muhanji, a worker at a local petrol station became suspicious upon noticing the cattle inside the vehicle when the suspects stopped to refuel. The worker quickly alerted the police, who arrived promptly and apprehended the suspects.
The cattle are believed to have been stolen, and police are conducting investigations to identify their rightful owners and uncover the full network of criminals involved.
Residents of Shinyalu have been urged to remain vigilant and report theft incidents immediately. “These criminals are taking advantage of the heavy rains to carry out their crimes, especially at night,” Muhanji noted.
Meanwhile, the local community has called on the government to strengthen security by providing Khayega Police Station with a service vehicle. Currently, the station relies on motorbikes for transport, which has been a significant challenge for officers while responding to emergencies.
Residents have welcomed the arrests but emphasize the need for increased efforts to curb the rising cases of livestock theft in the area.
