Governors Confident in Deputy President Kindiki’s Leadership on Devolution, Says Kakamega Governor

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, who also serves as the Chair of the Finance Committee at the Council of Governors, expressed confidence in Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki’s leadership to foster stronger collaboration with all 47 counties in his new role as Chairman of the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC).

Speaking in Bukembe, Bungoma County, where he was attending the funeral of the late Mzee Japherson Measame, Governor Barasa stated that county leaders are prepared to fully support Prof. Kindiki in efforts to strengthen devolution across the nation. He emphasized the importance of unity between the national and county governments, highlighting IBEC's role in ensuring fair budget allocations and promoting economic growth at the grassroots level.

"Governors are committed to working with Prof. Kindiki to advance the principles of devolution and improve service delivery for all Kenyans,” Barasa noted.

This endorsement from county leadership signals optimism for enhanced intergovernmental relations, as Prof. Kindiki takes on the responsibility of addressing financial and economic challenges facing devolved units in Kenya.
