Trans Nzoia County Invests Sh300 Million in Modern Market for Kiminini Centre

In a major step towards economic growth and urban development, the Trans Nzoia County Government has committed Sh300 million to construct a modern market at Kiminini Centre. This ambitious project will be a joint effort with the national government through the State Department of Housing and Urban Development.

During a site identification visit, Janerose Mutama, County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Lands, Physical Planning, and Housing and Urban Development, highlighted the potential of the new market to provide a well-organized and conducive environment for local business activities. According to Mutama, collaboration from local communities will be essential to ensure the project’s successful completion. She assured residents that their concerns and aspirations would be incorporated throughout the project’s implementation phase.

Mutama also shared that the market’s integrated plan has received all necessary approvals, although some adjustments might be needed to optimize the infrastructure layout. She encouraged local communities to remain open to changes, including possible expansion onto public land outside the current market area if required to accommodate all planned facilities.

Richard Tuta, a regional representative from the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, urged residents to support the project, even if it requires temporary relocations. He stressed that the market would yield long-term benefits that would positively impact generations to come.

George Kisaka, the Deputy County Secretary of Trans Nzoia, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the market's economic benefits for local farmers and traders. “This new market is expected to significantly boost the local economy by providing a modern and efficient trading platform for residents and business persons,” Kisaka stated.

The new Kiminini market promises to be a game-changer for the community, serving as a hub for economic activity and regional trade. With collaboration and community support, this investment aims to usher in a new era of growth and development for Trans Nzoia County.
