Bungoma County has officially kicked off the construction of the Chwele Strategic Market, a transformative KSh 343 million project aimed at modernizing local trade and boosting economic development.
The state-of-the-art facility, set to accommodate over 1,000 traders, represents a major milestone in the county’s economic agenda. Once completed, the one-storey market will feature modern amenities, including cold rooms, revenue offices, an ICT hub, a mother’s room, washing areas, a conference room, and designated zones for loading and offloading goods.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the County Governor emphasized the market's potential to transform Chwele into a regional economic hub, attracting investors and fostering development across Bungoma County.
“This project is not just about infrastructure. It is about empowering our community, uplifting livelihoods, and creating an enabling environment for business,” he remarked.
The market's construction, scheduled for completion in 18 months, is expected to enhance service delivery, stimulate local commerce, and provide much-needed opportunities for small-scale traders.
With modern facilities and an inclusive design, the Chwele Strategic Market is poised to drive significant growth, solidifying Bungoma County’s position as an economic powerhouse in the region.
