A somber mood has engulfed Shitoto village in Mumias East Constituency, Kakamega County, following the discovery of a man's lifeless body in River Lusumu. The deceased, who had been missing since last Friday, was found drowned under unclear circumstances.
According to the bereaved family, led by his son Kelvin Otoro and his sister-in-law Rose Osundwa, the deceased, identified as John Opiyo Saleh, 45, was a father of eight and a skilled construction worker. The family stated that John left home on Friday after reportedly experiencing mental distress. Efforts to locate him and get him medical attention were futile until his body was tragically recovered.
The family revealed that John had been living alone after separating from his wife. His sudden demise has left the family devastated, especially as he was the sole breadwinner for his eight school-going children. They are now appealing to leaders and well-wishers for support to care for the children and cover burial expenses.
The body of the deceased has been taken to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital Mortuary in Mumias, where an autopsy is awaited to establish the cause of death.
The community mourns the loss of a hardworking father and calls for unity and compassion to support his grieving family during this difficult time.
