Bodaboda operators in Lugari Constituency are calling for urgent intervention regarding the state of the Lwandeti-Nzoia road, a critical route for residents and businesses in the area. The poor condition of this road has not only disrupted their day-to-day activities but also placed their safety and livelihoods at risk. Many operators report increased maintenance costs for their motorcycles due to the rough terrain and frequent breakdowns caused by potholes and uneven surfaces.
The bodaboda operators highlight that the road, being an essential connector within Lugari, is often used by various road users, including livestock transporters, traders, and everyday commuters. However, they note that the road's deplorable state has forced them to slow down considerably, extending their travel time and reducing the number of customers they can serve daily. The impact has been felt not only in Lugari but in the broader region, affecting businesses, healthcare access, and even emergency services.
One of the operators, John Kibet, shared that navigating the road is a daily struggle. "Our motorcycles suffer constant wear and tear, and we end up spending much more on repairs. The few shillings we make are barely enough to keep us going because of these extra costs," he explained.
Additionally, the bodaboda community has raised concerns about the safety risks posed by livestock traders who frequently use the same road. According to the operators, many of these traders do not adhere to road safety laws, especially when moving animals, leading to frequent close calls and accidents.
